I visited the event “Condensed to 10 minutes! The Forefront of UTokyo Research” on November 27th. The first presentation of the day was “The World of Various Viruses” by Tetsuya Yoshida. He introduced huge viruses and useful viruses, something that may seem counterintuitive to us.

Students who became the lecturers at the event had held per-workshops several times and had given feedback to each other to enhance the quality of their persentations. I had joined the pre-workshop with Yoshida. Compared to the presentation then, the structure became much clearer, making it very easy for us to understand the material. By the way, Yoshida is the alumnus of the UTokyo FFP. He incorporated many ways to engage the audience including asking questions to them at the beginning.

As the photo shows, the venue was full of people right from the opening! They seemed to be listening to the presentations attentively. The event proceeded at a good pace with a 10-min presentation and a 5-min Q&A session for each lecturer. I believe this program is valuable for both students who give presentations and people who visit UTokyo.

I think the event will be held again next year at May Festival. The UTokyo FFP would like to keep supporting the program.
