A new course supervised by Professor Yuko Yotsumoto,
“Visual and Auditory Perception: How We See and Hear the External World,”
has been launched on Coursera.
Why are we able to perceive “color,” and how can we pick out a single voice in the midst of a noisy crowd?
In this course, we explore the astonishing mechanisms of perception, including the brain’s filling-in phenomenon, in which missing information is seamlessly completed. We also examine the face-selective brain region known as the Fusiform Face Area (FFA) and the remarkably sophisticated structure of the ear that enables us to detect sound.
Once you understand how the brain constructs our experience of the world, everyday sights and sounds will never feel quite the same.
Join us on Coursera and uncover the science behind how we truly see and hear.
