5.1 Goals for Making Presentations at International Conferences
(国際学会における発表の目標)

What’s the purpose of an oral presentation at an international conference?

I’d like to point out two goals for the presentation. The first one is to make your research results open to the public. The second one is to get feedback about/on your research project from researchers from around the world. This feedback will help you improve the quality of your research project.

Sounds great.

I feel anxious about giving an oral presentation at an international conference.
However, at the same time, I’m looking forward to communicating with a lot of other researchers!

Understandable. Even when you don’t make a presentation, in other words, when you just participate in an international conference, this experience is still valuable. This is because you have a chance to get the latest information about researches and to elaborate on your research topic, by listening to presentations, discussing the topic with researchers who have the same research interest, informal communication at receptions with researchers from various backgrounds, and so on.

I know well that an international conference is a very important opportunity.
