3.1 Importance of Discussions with a Colleague
(同僚との議論の意義)

I’m going to meet my colleague in the lab and discuss my research project. He knows this field well and has various ideas. So whenever he attends a meeting, he always provides insightful comments and suggestions for others.

He must be a good researcher.

Yes. I talked about my paper on architecture during the lab meeting last week. He gave me a lot of suggestions, but I couldn’t catch them all at that moment. I also couldn’t discuss all the details of what he pointed out, due to time limitation. So I emailed my paper to him and asked him to read it.

Then, you made an appointment with him to discuss your paper?

Exactly. Now I’m excited, but…

You’re also a bit nervous, right? I guess he’s tough when it comes to discussing researches on architecture. So, you’re afraid that he’ll talk too much and you’ll find it difficult to express your opinion or ask more questions.
