The Todai-Nomura Project has been in operation since 2006 and seeks to contribute to the strengthening of the university funding system in Japan. There are four main items on its research agenda: (1) tuition fees and student financial aid, (2) external funding, (3) endowments, and (4) facility management and capital funding.
Surveys and Publications on Higher Education
A comparative study of university funding strategies in the US, China, UK , and Japan has been conducted based on extensive interviews and questionnaires directed at the relevant stakeholders (including universities and fund providers). The results have been published in the form discussion papers.
Todai-Nomura University Management Forum
A series of forums has been held to disseminate the results of our project. The four forums held so far have been on the themes of “Gifts and Donations,” “Endowments and Asset Management,” “Strategic Planning,” and “Institutional Research and Financial Simulation.”
Todai-The University Funding and Asset Management Project (sponsored by MEXT)
A survey on university funding and asset management has been conducted with sponsorship from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The results were published in a report in 2008.
